Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking Statement

This statement sets out the steps Optellum Ltd has taken in financial year 2024 to reduce the risk of modern slavery and human trafficking in our business and supply chains. This statement is made on a voluntary basis, with reference to section 54 of the Modern Slavery Act 2015.

Our Business

Optellum is a UK health technology company that builds software to assist clinicians in the detection, risk assessment, diagnosis, and management of lung cancer and lung disease. Our supply chain mainly covers cloud and compute services; software and developer platforms; clinical and professional services; and corporate operations and facilities

Governance and Policies

We do not tolerate modern slavery or human trafficking. Our approach is set out in these policies:

  • Supplier code of conduct
  • Anti-slavery and human trafficking policy
  • Whistleblowing policy
  • Ethics and procurement policy

Supplier Due Diligence

We apply proportionate due diligence to new and existing suppliers:

  • Screening during onboarding, including acceptance of our supplier code and confirmation of compliance with labour laws
  • Risk-based checks for higher-risk categories or geographies
  • Contract terms that require compliance and allow audit or termination for breach

Risk Assessment

We assess our inherent risk as low given our sector and location. Higher-risk areas may include outsourced services, hardware manufacturing, and any contracting in higher-risk countries. We prioritise enhanced checks for these areas.

Training and Reporting

Relevant staff receive training on indicators of modern slavery and how to raise concerns. Employees can report issues in confidence through our whistleblowing channels.

Measuring Effectiveness

We track:

  • Percentage of new suppliers completing due diligence and agreeing to our code
  • Completion rates for relevant staff training
  • Number of issues raised and resolved
  • Periodic reviews of higher-risk suppliers

Next Steps

  • Extend supplier code acknowledgement to all strategic suppliers
  • Refresh our risk mapping and supplier segmentation
  • Update training materials and verify annual completion
